Pistachio Oil Dal

Pistachio Oil Dal Recipe

Cook time: 25-30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup split red lentils (masoor dal) or yellow lentils (moong dal)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (optional)
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons pistachio oil
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  • Rinse the lentils and soak them in water for 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of Kaizer Pistachio Oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add the onion, garlic, and ginger and sauté until the onion is translucent.
  • Add the tomato, cumin, coriander, turmeric, and chili powder (if using) and sauté for another minute.
  • Add the lentils and 2 cups of water to the saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the lentils are tender.
  • Season the dal with salt to taste.
  • Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of pistachio oil in a small pan over medium heat.
  • Add a few curry leaves or a sprinkle of cumin seeds to the oil and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  • Pour the flavored oil over the dal and garnish with fresh cilantro.
  • Serve hot with rice or roti!
